Tigers Defeated in Match-Up Against DePauw Tigers

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, the Wittenberg’s Women’s Basketball Team fought a tough battle against the DePauw University Tigers, losing 51-38. In the first minute and 57 seconds, sophomore Sydney Mayle scored two points with a layup.

However, a minute later, DePauw came in and made layup after layup. Putting our Tigers behind but, they weren’t finished yet. Coach Kelly Muhlam changed up the lineup and pushed on through the first quarter.

Coming into the second quarter, Wittenberg came out strong. Sophomore Alex Kiess led the team with a total of six points, consisting of two jump shots and a layup. With the assistance of senior Riley McDonald, and sophomores Hannah Weaver, Liz Tolliver and Mayle, the Wittenberg Tigers scored a total of 13 points, outscoring DePauw by four.

At the half, DePauw lead the game 30-17. Junior Haley Dannemiller and freshman Alexis Perry both were fouled and made two free throws each. By the end of the game, Kiess had scored a total of 14 points, finishing the game as the team’s leading scorer for the Tigers. Senior Michelle Brunswick led the team in rebounds with a total of seven and led in assists with a total of three. At the end of the night, the Wittenberg Tigers had given the game their all but, fell short.

Keep a look out for their next home game on Saturday, Feb. 11 as the team takes on Oberlin College for Senior Night in the Pam Evans Smith Arena.
