Want to start working towards that spring break bod? Group fitness programs will now take place in the HPER Center every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
This is an opportunity for Wittenberg students to work out together in new and exciting ways. These new classes offer a great alternative to working out in the strength center or in the fitness center. Fitness, the desire to get in shape, is a trend that has been growing at Wittenberg in recent years). Now, all Tigers can take advantage of these new classes and get in the shape they want.
Three different workouts are offered throughout the week by two different instructors. On Mondays, abs take place for half an hour starting at 5 p.m. Following abs, kickboxing will take place in the mat room under the stage in the old gym. Kickboxing begins at 5:45 p.m. and lasts for an hour. On Tuesdays, a toning class takes place from 7 to 8 p.m. in the film room on the second floor, going towards the press box in Pam Evans Smith Arena. On Thursdays, all three classes are offered consecutively starting at 5 p.m., beginning with abs and finishing with toning. All of these fitness programs are free and are only open to Wittenberg students.
Junior Brooke Barney has gone to these fitness programs and said that there has been a great turnout for most of the classes. Enough people attended the abs class that they were forced to move from the racquetball court to a bigger space.
The abs class is one that does more than just work your abs. It incorporates the entire body, so that the entire core is strengthened.
“Kickboxing is very fun and energetic,” Barney said.
She also said that kickboxing involves a lot of jumping, so it makes people pretty tired. The toning class involves a lot of stretching, along with different body weight workouts, like squats and pushups.
“These workouts are a fun way to get in shape,” Barney said. “I would recommend these classes to anyone who wants to workout in a fun environment and meet new people!”
