The Wittenberg Tigers Football Team continued their winning streak this past Saturday by defeating Ohio Wesleyan 42-23.
The Tigers offense was scoring at will and on a consistent basis. The Tigers offense was led by Ryan Fallon, ’19, as he scored three times.
The Tigers scored on their first play of possession, when starting quarterback Jake Kennedy, ’19, ran for a 45-yard touchdown run. On the next Tiger possession, Kennedy threw an 18-yard strike to running back Nick Kendall, ’20.
Fallon scored on a one-yard touchdown run and scored on a three-yard designed quarterback keeper, giving the Tigers a 28-0 lead in the second quarter. The game was starting to become a blowout in favor of Wittenberg before Ohio Wesleyan kicked a field goal.
In the second half, Wittenberg would score late in the third quarter, as Fallon snuck in the endzone from two yards out, as the Tigers then led 35-3. The Tigers last scoring play was a touchdown pass to wide receiver Bryce Bailey, ’18.
As well as the offense was clicking on all cylinders, the Tigers defense played an outstanding game against the passing attack of Ohio Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops threw the ball 60 times during the game.
The defense was lead by Terrance Crowe, ’19, who recorded 10 tackles and caught an interception. Chandler Ferko, ’18, Brandon Daniels, ’18 and Jeremey Asiffo, ’19, all recorded sacks for the Tigers, as the defense picked up six total tackles.
After winning the game, head coach Joe Fincham became the 86th head coach in NCAA history to surpass the 200-win mark, and the 26th Division III coach to do so. Less than 50 coaches have managed to complete the feat at one institution, including Fincham. He joins the likes of Woody Hayes and Bear Bryant on the eye-popping shortlist of coaches.
Next weekend, Wittenberg has a great chance to finish the regular season undefeated for the first time since 2010, and win the NCAC conference outright for the second consecutive season with a win against Wooster. The Tigers look to complete the regular season next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. during a senior day celebration.
