Wittfest Headliner Announced: 3OH!3

As spring semester and the academic year inches toward its end, students begin preparing for final exams and projects. However, this time of year calls for more than just stress-eating and insomnia. Wittenberg refers to this end-of-the-year celebration as Wittfest.
Wittfest is an outdoor festival that provides students with an on-campus opportunity for a full day of free musical performances, food and activities to celebrate the end of the school year. Union Board announced last week that this year’s Wittfest headliner would be 3OH!3. Students may recall the group’s hits from a few years back, songs such as “Don’t Trust Me,” “My First Kiss (feat. Ke$ha)” and “Starstrukk (feat. Katy Perry).”
For those unfamiliar, 3OH!3 is the electronica duo of Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte, who met for the first time during a physics class at the University of Colorado. The two have had a close bond ever since. The group formed in 2004 after being inspired by the hip-hop electronic scene. Then, they decided to form a musical act with the name of 3OH!3, which was taken from the 303 area code which covered the Boulder, Aurora and the Denver metropolitan area.
The duo released its self-titled album in 2007, but found greater success with its second album “Want,” which was released in 2008 and features the highly successful single “Don’t Trust Me,” mentioned earlier. Its next few albums fell not too far behind: “Streets of Gold” in 2010, “Omens” in 2013, and its most recent album being released in 2016, entitled “NIGHT SPORTS.”
When asked her first reaction to the Wittfest headliner announcement, Isabel Blankenship, ‘19, said that the news made her day, and that she literally gasped and covered her mouth in disbelief. Other students were also delightfully surprised by the announcement. Talia Nicole, ‘20, is looking forward to a “blast from the past,” and went on to express in popular phrase that Wittfest 2017 is surely “going to be lit.”
