Wittenberg is taking a new approach to admissions by redesigning their admissions packets for new students.
The acceptance envelops, which read “Look What You Got In the Mail” on the front, open up to announce “You Got In” on the inside. The new packets feature a Welcome-to-Wittenberg guide that folds out into a poster and a page full of Wittenberg decals for the new student.
Among the highlights in the guide is a list of the “Nine essential Wittenberg Traditions,” which includes avoiding stepping on seal and streaking through Myer’s Hollow.
“We’re a fun campus,” said Dean of Students, Sarah Kelly, “We have a sense of humor.”
The new admissions packets certainly reflect both of these statements and offer helpful tips and advice to guide new students into college life. Among the other helpful lists the packet features are “5 Steps to Perfectly Clean Laundry” and “11 items you might want to bring to campus.”
“You have to be catchy to catch their eye,” said Director of Admissions Karen Hunt. She adds that acceptance letters are a big deal for high school seniors, “We wanted it to be an experience.”
According to Hunt, the new approach to admissions, which is not limited to the acceptance letter, will benefit the university by reaching out to more students and finding students who are the right fit for Wittenberg.
